Horary Theory: General Questions VS Specific Questions!

Hello everyone. I wanted to make a post and comment on the type of questions people ask.

As in general questions. I've mentioned in some posts that...I hate this questions. The reason is because they never give a clear answer. They just don't.

There are some exceptions to general questions, which can be answered, mainly those involving pregnancy and having children.

General questions are something like:

- "Will I ever get married?"
- "Will I find a boyfriend soon?"
- "Will I get my diploma in 3 years?"
- "Will I be rich?"

Etc...

The problem with this type of questions is that, usually the chart will ALWAYS point to a yes.

Lets take the most common one:

a woman asking "Will I ever get married"?

Most ancient horary astrologers (including William Lilly), left a couple of instructions on how to judge a question like this. While most of them vary on the technique, and the planets involved, they are pretty much similar. According to them you have to look for:

- The ruler of the 1st house / The Moon as signifiers for the querent.

And then you need to look for aspects between these 2 planets with:

- The ruler of the 7th house (the spouse).
- The Sun (as a signifier for Husbands).
- The Planet Mars (as signifier for Man).
- Planets INSIDE the 1st house.
- Planets INSIDE the 2nd house.
- Most of the main signifiers in Fertile signs (water signs)

According to tradition, aspects between the 2 signifiers for the querent, and some of these planets, provide testimony of a woman getting married. The more testimonies you can find in the chart, the better.

The problem is that...this kind of answer is sort of a hoax.

While it is true that these testimonies DO indicate the likehood of a woman getting married, it would be almost imposible NOT to find any type of aspect or placement in the chart.

It will be most likely that either the moon or the ruler of the 1st will be aspecting a planet, or that you'll find a planet placed in the 1st house, or stuff like that.

So pretty much any general questions regarding marriage will always, according to tradition, be a YES.

Besides, we should also take into consideration, the fact that society today has changed. Not every person gets married, but that doesn't imply they may not have committed lasting relationships. Or life partnerships.

Sometimes the chart can point out to a potential partner, that might never become a legal spouse.

---

Now like I said, there are exceptions for general questions, the most important one, is the one about pregnancy.

This is because, when the question is asked, what you are looking are not for children, but for testimonies of Fertility. The ability to concieve.

Mainly, the ruler of the 1st, the 5th, The moon and Venus in good placement.

Fertile signs, Barren signs, Medium signs (those that are "sort" of fertile), House placement (angular is better), etc, would indicate a woman's ability to concieve.

---

To make things short: it is always better to ask specific questions. As in:

- "Will I marry my current boyfriend?", instead of asking "will I ever marry?"

Specific questions are more accurate.

Anyways, Hope it helps!

Horary Example: can't find my keys!

Hello everyone! Today I made an interesting chart to find my keys, which as usual I had misplaced....

I had just gotten home, my phone's battery died...I needed to check an e-mail real fast, to leave again. So I sit in my pc, check my e-mails and then rush off the door, only to realize that I'm al MORON, because in the 4 minutes I had spent in my house I had already missplaced my keys...

What a genius....

But oh well, as usual, lets use astrology to solve my silly problems, after all, I really don't want to put much effort into looking for my keys.

SO I made a chart, to find the lost object.

I'm offering the chart for the purpose of learning horary. I made my own interpretation, and eventually found my keys.

So I made the chart.

First things to look for:

- Ruler of the 2nd house (my "things")
- Ruler of the 4th house (hidden treasures).

Usually it is best to check these 2, and decide for 1...and use the planet who has more natural affinity to the object in hand. For example, if venus ruled the 2nd and mars the 4th, and I'm looking for a woman's piece of clothing, clearly venus would be the better choice.

Despite this, I would rather use both and see what they tell me.

So I look at the chart:

Me = Leo Asc, so ruled by the sun.

Funny thing....

- the ruler of the 4th house is placed in the 1st house, close to the Asc.
- the ruler of the 2nd house is placed in the 4th almost the 5th, close to the sun (asc's ruler).

In this case, mercury is the natural ruler of keys, so mercury would be the best one to represent it.

Now, like an idiot, I follow every dam instruction from every horary book ever made, to identify the room in which I might have left my keys. Of course....to no succes.

Eventually after spending 15 mins turning my apartment upside down. I sit down at the PC and look at mercury.

Right there, combusted, recently separating from the Sun (me), in a fire sign.

Signs tend to point onto the "enviroment" the object is. For example, a water sign could indicate a watery place, like kitchen or bathroom. Fiery signs, usually indicate "hot" places.

Yet the interesting part is mercury right there next to the Sun....as if it was really close. Also jupiter, the other signifier for my keys, close to the ascendant, as in "close to me".

Its like the chart is screaming:"You id*ot, check infront of you".

So I start checking my pockets, jacket, everywhere around, thinking about a hot place. Of course....I wasn't looking at the obvious thing infront of me: my computer...duh!

So I stand up, look behind my pc screen, and there they were.

- Fire sign: In a hot place (close to my pc that emanates heat)
- Close to Asc: really close to me
- Close to Asc's ruler: reaaaaaaalllyyyy close to me
- Combusted: unable to be seen (they were behind my screen).

It is a funny horary, and so amazing how horary can pin point exactly where a lost thing might be. I advise everyone to practice this, cause its a really nice way of getting to understand horary!

Horary Example: Going out on a date!

Hello everyone. A few weeks ago I made an horary about a girl I met, asking the question: "Will She go out with me?"

I'm putting this horary chart up, because the events that lead me to going out with this girl went 100% as predicted by the chart.

I'm offering the chart for the purpose of learning horary. I made my own interpretation, and the chart gave me a clear "YES". The date indeed happened, as predicted, in the exact time the horary predicted. You may find this chart pretty interesting, as a good source of information.

The chart includes:

- Information about house placement
- Information about timing
- Information about receptions
- Information about aspects and their nature.

I made the chart on November 17th 2014.

We went out on Dec 2nd 2014.

some backstory: around a month ago I ran into this girl I used to work with; I always had a crush on her but she used to have a boyfriend; she is now single so I asked out to dinner.

Ok so lets go for the analysis:

Me = Venus (ruler of 1st) / Moon (co-signifier)
Her = Mars (ruler of 7th)

1) House placement:

As you can see my own signifier, venus, is inside the 7th house. Despite the fact that venus finds itself on a different sign that the one from the ruler of the 7th, this implies my interest in her.

Power by house placement:

- venus is angular (7th house), has power to act
- mars is in a succedent, not much power to act (9th house is actually cadent, but works as a succedent here).

So clearly I'm the one going to be asking her out, as I did.

2) Receptions:

As you can see, the 2 planets that represent me don't really find themselves in any dignity of mars, yet, venus inside the 7th house works just as well as a reception, because my planet is inside a house ruled by her planet.

Mars: mars is in capricorn, day chart, in the triplicity of venus; triplicity is not as strong as regency or exaltation (which imply deep attraction); yet triplicity is a good reception for someone you just met, might mean she finds me attractive, or funny, or at least a worthy prospect to try going out on a date.

So the receptions from her to me are good enough for her to say Yes.

3) The aspect:

Now here is a bit of a complication. There is no aspect from venus to mars. That *****, even if she said yes, we would probably not go out.

There is, however, a distant aspect from the moon to mars: a square. Traditionally squares imply complications in the given event. But this is, at least, an aspect, meaning that for better or worse, we are going out.

4) The timing:

Now the moon and mars are in a distance of 15 degrees from perfecting that square (more or less). So we can assume that whenever happens, it will happen in more or less "15 of something".

Now the question is.....decades? years? months? weeks? days? hours?

We need a time unit. Since I had just bumped into her, and I obviously wished to see her soon, I assumed that the time unit would be:

hours, days or weeks....

Now lets look at house placement for the applying planet- the moon.

Moon is in a succedent house, in a cardinal sign. This points to the middle unit: days.

So the chart predicts that I will go out with her in like...15 days, so to be exact, December 2nd. And so I did.

How did the date go?

Here is what happened:

After meeting her, I made this chart. Exactly 1 week later, I called her, and asked her if she wanted to go to dinner or coffee on friday, to "catch up", obviously implying a romantic interest. She said she was flattered and that she wanted to go, yet she was busy on friday and had a birthday party for a friend, so that we should talk in the future for another time.

A few weeks later, on a sunday she calls me, and tells me if I wanted to have dinner at her place on tuesday. Of course I wanted! Yet...I had to work late that night. I felt bad because I wasn't going to be able to be at the time she wanted me to be, so I told her I could pick her up a few hours later (when I'm off from work), and take her to a restaurant instead, so she didn't have to cook.

She agreed, and we set the date. The day of the date there were a few delays with some papers, so I had to stay even later, not much just 30 mins, but making me go pick her up a bit late. When we got to the restaurant it was full (we didn't have a reservation, because being a tuesday, we didn't expect the restaurant to be full). So we ended up waiting like 20 mins for a table.....

After that the date went fine.

But as you can see, most of the things promised by the chart, turned out to be true. Specially the square, because we did meet up, yet we hit a few bumps in the road (me being late, crowded restaurant, she being busy the first time I asked, etc.).

So there you have it, an example of an horary.

A few words from William Lilly:

"My Friend, whoever thou art, that with so much ease shalt receive the benefit of my hard studies, and doest intend to proceed in this heavenly knowledge of the starres; In the first place, consider and admire thy Creator, be thankful) unto him, and be humble, and let no naturall knowledge, how profound or transcendant soever it be, elate thy mind to neglect that Divine Providence, by whose al-seeing order and appointment all things heavenly and earthly have their constant motion: the more thy knowledge is enlarged, the more doe thou magnify the power and wisdome of Almighty God: strive to preserve thyself in his favour; for the more holy thou art, and more neer to God, the purer judgment thou shalt give."

"Beware of pride and self-conceit: remember how that long agoe no irrationall creature thirst offend man the Macrocosme, but did faithfully serve and obey him; so long as he was master of his own reason and passions, or until he subjected his will to the unreasonable part. But, alas! when iniquity abounded, and man gave the reins to his own affection, and deserted reason, then every beast, creature, and outward harmfull thing, became rebellious to his command. Stand fast (oh, man) to thy God: then consider thy own nobleness; how all created things, both present and to come, were for thy sake created; nay, for thy sake God became man: thou art that creature, who, being conversant with Christ, livest and reignest above the heavens, and sits above all power and authority. How many pre-eminences, privileges, advantages, hath God bestowed on thee: thou rangest above the heavens by contemplation, conceivest the motion and magnitude of the stars: thou talkest with angels, yea, with God himself: thou hast all creatures within thy dominion, and keepest the devils in subjection. Doe not, then, for shame deface thy nature, or make thyself unworthy of such gifts, or deprive thyself of that great power, glory, and blessednesse, God hath allotted thee, by casting from thee his favour ' for possession of a few imperfect pleasures."

"Having considered thy God, and what thyself art, during thy being God's servant, now receive instruction how in thy practice I would have thee carry thyself. As thou daily conversest with the heavens, so instruct and form thy mind according to the image of Divinity: learn all the ornaments of virtue, be sufficiently instructed therein: be humane, curtius, familiar to all, easie of accesse: afflict not the miserable with terrour of a harsh judgment; direct such to call on God to divert his judgments impending over them: be civil, sober, covet not an estate; give freely to the poor, both money and judgment: let no worldly wealth procure an erronious judgment from thee, or such as may dishonour the art. Be sparing in delivering judgment against the common-wealth thou livest in; avoyd law and controversie: in thy study be totus in illus, that thou mayest be singulus in arte. Be not extravagant, or desirous to learn every science; be not aliquid in omnibus; be faithfull, tenacious, betray no ones secrets. Instruct all men to live well: be a good example thyselfe; love thy own native country; be not dismaid if ill spoken of, conscientia mille testes. God suffers no sin unpunished, no lye unrevenged. Pray for the nobility, honour the gentry and yeomanry of England; stand firme to the commands of this parliament; have a reverent opinion of our worthy lawyers, for without their learned paines, and the mutual assistance of some true spirited gentlemen, we might yet be made slaves, but we will not; we now see light as well as many of the clergy. Pray, if it stand with God's will, that monarchy in this kingdom may continue, his Majesty and posterity reigne; forget not the Scottish nation, their mutual assistance in our necessity, their honourable departure. God preserve the illustrious Fairfax, and his whole armye, and let the famous city of London be ever blessed, and all her worthy citizens."

- "WILLIAM LILLY."
